Ever Since the Chicago Cubs mortgaged their future for what they thought was their immediate gain they have continue to auction off the best they had to offer and fallen victim every time.  D J LaMaheiu went on to stardom with the Colorado Rockies and Josh Donaldson went on to star for several teams, Oakland, Toronto;  And now Gleyber Torres and Eloy Jimenez  are about to break on the scene and we are going to long for the day that never will be of having those two with the current set of Cubs.

July 31st

Seeing the post about the Old Joint brought back ‘the hell years’ of my life.  One doesn’t really want to dwell to much on the past, not that past.  I could relive it in living color but what would that serve me.

Word Press is doing something tomorrow, August 1st, that is going to prohibit me from posting on Facebook directly from this site.  This blog is only a part of a larger site that I hope to transform to a merchandise site, Thomson Home Emporium.  As I have indicated, it is a work in progress.  I see what’s missing. where is the function to add photos?  Maybe that’s part of the learning curve I have yet to learn. Or is it I have bypassed that point by going straight to writing text?  Possibly so.

I don’t think it’s true but it wouldn’t surprise me if the Day Time Soap Opera “As The World Turns”  adds the words “Out of Control”  I suppose you would have to chart a new plot line but the truth is I have never watched a soap opera in my life so I have no idea what goes on with them.  Actually, it would be terribly difficult to portray the world as it is in a reality sense.  Well, you could just compile all the newscasts and hit them with the reality of the world and you wouldn’t need to pay any actors to do it.  Just watch Chicago’s 10 O’Clock news and one story after another is one murder after another with a little weather thrown in to break the monotony of it all.

Navigating without a compass

I read briefly tonight an article about not being afraid to make mistakes.  Who me, make mistakes??  Or afraid to make mistakes.  I was working up in Winnetka, Illinois at the Congregational Church. The very same Congregational Church that rented out their parking lot as a staging area for the making of the first Home Alone, a mere half block away.  Now what was my point?  Oh yeah, making mistakes.  I was working away and what not when in dismay I pronounced, “Dang, I messed up.”  The 95 year old member of the church who was a CPA and volunteering auditing the books turned and said, “First time.”   I realized immediately what he was saying.  This is the first time you have made a mistake.  If he only knew?  All that to say, here I am taking a further step at how I am going to utilize this website as I turn it in to a mercantile emporium.  I didn’t do much today and I may not get much down in the next two days as the munchkins will be here and I’d like to get them out and do something before their summer is gone.  At this late hour I am going to call it a night.  Tomorrow is July 31st.  I should always remember to date my posts in the post to recall it a year from now and mark my progress.  Heard today that here in the Chicago area this July has been the driest July since 1936.  Fare the well July.

My 2nd Cup of Coffee

Did you ever experience in a restaurant that your 2nd Cup of Coffee was hotter than the first.  That use to puzzle me until I thought about what was happening.  They were taking a clean cup from a stack of cups that had been sitting for awhile and then pouring that first cup of coffee in to it.  The 2nd Cup of Coffee is being poured into your warm cup, warm from the 1st Cup.  If I were to own a restaurant that would be the first thing I would correct.  The second thing I would be certain my customers knew was that they would always receive continuous refills, for no other reason than I liked continuous refills but also it keeps you in your seat.  Maybe by the 2nd or 3rd cup you are ready to order a bagel, a muffin or even a meal.  As I sit here drinking my 1st Cup of Coffee I am warming up to other changes I would make for my restaurant and I think it would deserve more than a few paragraphs.  And here we are still on the first.  It’s early, and frankly I am not that alert just yet.  Drink up and we’ll come back for the rest.

I see, I also see I am going out on the porch and look for rodents, skunks and creatures that lurk in the dark.

You can do all kinds of cooky little things with this blog.
